DeepL is a language AI platform for translating text and documents, with DeepL Write, an assistant for editing text. Translation and editing are powered by neural networks. The service is built on neural machine translation and the company’s own language model (LLM), trained on the company’s proprietary language data.

What it can do. Translates text and PDF, Word (.docx), and PowerPoint (.pptx) documents into more than 100 languages. DeepL Write Pro corrects grammar, punctuation, and spelling, rephrases text, and changes its tone (friendly, business, or diplomatic). Write works in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. An API is available for developers.

Data. According to DeepL, user text is not used to train its models.

Pricing. The free version includes 50,000 characters per month and one document up to 5 MB. Paid plans billed annually (16% discount): Individual — €7.49 per month (300,000 characters, 3 documents up to 30 MB), Team — €24.99 per user per month (1,000,000 characters, 20 documents), Business — €49.99 per user per month (unlimited characters subject to fair use, 100 documents up to 100 MB). Write Pro is available as an add-on for €6.99 per user per month when billed annually.

Do I need a VPN or proxy to use the service?

It depends on your region. If the service is not available in your country, its site says so; a VPN or proxy is a way around regional limits, but follow the rules of the service and the laws of your country. Is it safe to share my data with an AI tool?
